Growing up my mom called them &#8220;blueberry biscuits&#8221; &#8211; but they seem a more like English Scones to me. . . thus the change in the name. They are pretty easy to make and super yummy. A word of advice &#8211; be sure to use FROZEN berries, not fresh. The fresh berries will lead to a sticky stained mess while cutting the dough.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Baked Blueberry Scones<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">2 C. sifted flour<br \/>\n1\/2 C. sugar<br \/>\n3 tsp. baking powder<br \/>\n1\/4 tsp baking soda<br \/>\n1 tsp salt<br \/>\n1\/3 c. shortening<br \/>\n2 tsp zested orange peel<br \/>\n1 egg, beaten<br \/>\n1 tsp vanilla<br \/>\n3\/4 C. buttermilk<br \/>\n1\/2 C. frozen blueberries<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Topping:<br \/>\n3 Tbsp butter, melted<br \/>\n3 Tbsp sugar<br \/>\n1\/4 tsp cinnamon<br \/>\ndash of nutmeg<\/p>\n<p>Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.<br \/>\n1. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt<br clear=\"all\" \/>2. Cut in shortening until coarse<br \/>\n3. Add orange peel and mix lightly<br \/>\n4. Combine egg &amp; vanilla with buttermilk, and add to flour mixture<br \/>\n5. Stir enough to blend<br \/>\n6. Add frozen blueberries and stir gently<br \/>\n7. Transfer dough to a floured surface and fold 5 or 6 times.<br \/>\n8. Pat dough to 1\/2&#8243; thickness<br \/>\n9. Cut out biscuits with a floured 2&#8243; biscuit cutter<br \/>\n10. Bake on a greased cookie sheet for 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Topping:<br \/>\n1. Combine all topping ingredients<br \/>\n2. Spoon over biscuits while they are still warm (not hot)<br \/>\n3. (OPTIONAL) add a second coating of the topping when the biscuits are almost cool.<\/p>\n<p>YIELD: 1 dozen<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This recipe comes from my childhood.
