About
spoon.ernstrom.net is a food blog.
The name, “The Slotted Spoon” was chosen in tribute to Sondheim’s Into the Woods. The musical has long been one of my favorites. In one of the scenes Jack’s mother (as in Jack in the Beanstalk) tells her son, “The slotted spoon can’t hold much soup.” Later, when her outlook changes she comments that “the slotted spoon can catch the potato.” It may make little sense to someone unfamiliar with the musical, but I find it somewhat profound and quite memorable. If you have not seen Into the Woods, I highly recommend it.
The purpose of this website is to document the kitchen adventures of one very eccentric lady. Recipes here may come from various sources or may be completely original. In the event that a recipe is posted here from another known source, credit will be given where credit is due. It is not the goal of this blog to plagiarize the work of another. Its purpose is to serve as an online recipe box, if you will.
Feel free to browse the foods herein. Make them. Copy the recipes. Repost them. But please be sure to credit this website and/or other noted sources for the recipes you use.
…Enough business.
I am Tina. This is my food blog.
For as long as I can remember I’ve loved cooking and experimenting with food. I’ve not always been successful with it, but I nearly always have fun. As a small child I once made my parents a “soup” make from water, marshmallows, and raisins. I think I was three. Later I pioneered a “chip salad” consisting of various levels of chip crunchiness mixed into a salad and a dressing made from a concoction of Catalina salad dressing, mayonnaise, ketchup. and a few other random items. The later was more popular.
Still I find myself swaying from the recipe (if I even bother to start with one), and experimenting with new food combinations. Some more successful than others. I know its a winner when my husband comments that it tastes like something that he would order from a restaurant menu.
The recipes found herein will most likely be a combination of tried and true recipes and experimental adventures. Come along for the ride!
